Japanese Koi Tattoos

About Koi Tattoos
The history and mythology of koi goes back to China, over 2,000 years ago, and these images and stories were absorbed into Japanese culture like so many other things. They have been kept as auspicious pets dating back hundreds of years. They have been popular images throughout the history of Japanese tattoo designs and as that style is now very prevalent in Western tattoo culture, so is the Japanese koi tattoo.

A Koi On Keith Alexander
Keith Alexander was a long-time body mod enthusiast who created an amazing blog, chronicling the creation of his koi back tattoo. Sadly, he was killed in a bike accident in NYC, but his blog has been maintained as a memorial by his friends.

Japanese Dragon

Much of the symbolism of the Japanese dragon has already been described for the dragon with sword tattoo and the face of the dragon tattoo in this same section of the web site. Even so, this Japanese dragon differs slightly from these others – although to the untrained eye, one large Japanese tattoo seems like another.

This dragon has its mouth closed, in a less aggressive stance. It also clutches in one of his claws an object that is variously shown as a ball, a pearl, or a jewel. This item is essentially the closed-lotus form seen in various Buddhist designs including temples and grave markers. It represents the spiritual essence of the universe, by which the dragon controls the winds, rains, and even the movement of the planets, and he protects it from those who might usurp those powers.

Butterfly Tattoos Design

If you're a female and you're on the hunt for the perfect tattoo, you've probably considered butterfly tattoos as a way to express yourself. Butterfly tattoos have a way of representing feminine beauty as well as the transformation into womanhood, which is why so many women are attracted to them.

There's a Butterfly Tattoo for Every Woman.

These tattoo designs are so versatile, which makes design possibilities as unique as every woman. If you're more attracted to an abstract design, you can go for a tribal butterfly tattoo or a whimsical butterfly design.

If you want your butterfly tattoo to match your fun, light-hearted personality, you can go with a cartoon design or a simple line drawing. You can make your butterfly tattoo design as simple or intricate as your heart desires.

Women Can Make Them Classic or Wild!

You can accentuate the classic beauty of a butterfly by getting it inked in all black or a similar dark color (like forest green, plum, mahogany, brown, navy blue, etc.). This style can look elegant and sophisticated.

If you're more artistic and bold, you can create an elaborate design in vivid color combinations that speak to your soul. These vibrant designs can be quite a conversation piece or just a bold illustration of your personality.

Women of All Walks of Life Can Relate to the Symbol of a Butterfly.

Butterflies represent metamorphosis, transformation, grace, freedom, gentleness, serenity, and good luck. Every culture has its own positive connotation. Butterfly tattoo designs illustrate those same qualities for women to admire, no matter their background, beliefs, personalities or life situations.

If you're looking for a tattoo that symbolizes feminine beauty and positive change, then butterfly tattoos are the best choice. Just as no two butterflies are the same, no two butterfly tattoos are the same either.
